Is the big 3 bailout really just about union busting?

I don't follow your logic. If the bailout is about union busting, let's simply not do the bailout and let events take their course. The auto company problems can't be pinned on the Republicans...and the fact is that both the Democrats and Republicans have shared concerns about spending tax payer dollars to rescue companies from their own bad decisions. Frankly, I think that the conventional wisdom of the public (those who don't have a direct interest in the auto industry) is that the union caused most of the problem by putting excess burden on the companies. I have a feeling that the above question was posed by a union devotee....and if that is the case, I would encourage the union to look inward and ask themselves what they can do to contribute in a substantial way to the survival of these companies. Frankly, work rules should be modified or eliminated and the workers in general should give a real commitment to producing a quality product while earning reasonable wages based on typical American workers with a similar education. Your employer's very survival is at risk...and yours is too. Desperate times call for drastic measures. Now is not the time to consider minimal concessions. The industry is on the edge of a cliff and if it goes over all of you will follow them into financial extinction.
